Approach the central bulb in the clearing to activate your first Onion. This remarkable entity produces red Pikmin, known for their strength and resistance to fire. Pluck the sprouted Pikmin and begin cultivating your tiny army. Utilize their abilities by throwing or directing them at the flowers surrounding the Onion to dislodge pellets. Collecting these pellets allows you to grow additional Pikmin. Notably, there are two flowers, two 1 Pellets near your ship, and a larger 5 Pellet that requires a minimum of 5 Pikmin to carry. After clearing this initial area, you’ll have 14 Pikmin at your disposal.
Next, guide your Pikmin toward the large cardboard box at the edge of the clearing. Either throw or dismiss them near the box, prompting them to collaborate and push it. At least 10 Pikmin are needed to set the box in motion. Witness their impressive teamwork through a brief cutscene. In this smaller area, you’ll discover your first ship part—the Dolphin’s Engine! Regrettably, your initial group of 14 Pikmin lacks the strength to lift it. To remedy this, grow your forces by gathering more pellets conveniently located up the ramp in the clearing.
Lead your Pikmin to the pellets and toss them to contribute to the expansion of your forces. You’ll come across three 1 Pellets and a 5 Pellet. Pluck the newly sprouted Pikmin and increase your count. By now, you should have a maximum of 25 Pikmin, the highest number attainable on this first day. Lead them back to the Engine, and together, they’ll carry it triumphantly to the Dolphin. As they reach the ship, the first day concludes. With the Engine retrieved, you’ll unlock a new area, The Forest of Hope, teeming with potential ship parts and Pikmin
The Forest of Hope:
Upon landing, call out your Red Pikmin from the Onion and assign most of them to dismantle the dirt or tree root fence. Meanwhile, have the remaining Pikmin gather Pellets to replenish your ranks. Eliminate the small yet dangerous Dwarf Bulborbs by dropping Pikmin on top of them. If you’re having trouble aiming, continue throwing Pikmin until the Bulborbs are defeated. Save any Pikmin being attacked by quickly dispatching the enemy.
Clear the entire area, collect enemy bodies and Pellets to grow more Pikmin (don’t overlook the 5 Pellet on the left ledge). Once your Pikmin count increases, confront the larger sleeping Spotty Bulborb. Circle around it, maintaining distance. Align your cursor with the creature’s back and rapidly toss Pikmin. It will wake up, shake off the Pikmin, but keep throwing them to prevent it from biting down. Practice may be required, but remember, Pikmin are replaceable (although it’s advisable to restart the day if you lose too many).
After defeating the large monster, return its body to the Red Onion and have the remaining Pikmin carry the Eternal Fuel Dynamo near the lake. You’ll need at least 40 Pikmin, so wait until you harvest the Spotty Bulborb if you suffered losses in battle.
Next, focus your followers on the dirt wall where the large Bulborb was sleeping. Let a few Pikmin work on it while the rest carry items back to the ship or Onion for maximum efficiency. Once the wall crumbles, proceed through the opened gate, defeat the enemies within, but refrain from collecting their bodies this time. At the back of this area, you’ll find another Onion—the Yellow Onion. It will produce Yellow Pikmin, capable of higher and farther throws due to their large ears. They are the only Pikmin that can handle the glowing explosive rocks scattered around.
Grow your Yellow Pikmin by harvesting Pellets and enemies. When different colors of Pikmin carry a harvestable item, the majority color determines the Onion it will be returned to. For example, if you have 3 Yellow Pikmin and 2 Red Pikmin carrying a 5 Pellet, it will be returned to the Yellow Onion. In case of an even split, it will go to a random Onion.
If you have time remaining, launch your Yellow Pikmin at the stone wall with the bomb rocks. They will grab a bomb rock, but be cautious as calling them back may trigger an explosion, endangering everyone, including Olimar. Use these bomb-wielding Pikmin carefully to destroy the stone wall. Proceed through and defeat a couple of Dwarf Bulborbs to acquire the Whimsical Radar, a valuable part that grants access to area maps and helps locate stray Pikmin.

Priority one upon landing is finding the Blue Onion, located west of the ship and close to the starting area. Construct a log bridge across the chasm to retrieve the blue Automatic Gear from the ledge southwest of the ship.
In the northwest pool, retrieve the #1 Ionium Jet with at least 15 blue Pikmin. Knock down the latticed gate northeast of the ship. Consider returning to The Impact Site to collect the final item and increase Pikmin numbers.
Deal with the brownish-yellow grub creature at the start area. Bait it with a 1 Pellet and overpower it with 2 Pikmin to release the swallowed Space Float.
To obtain the Libra and Analog Computer efficiently, prepare for both simultaneously. In the desert-like clearing, construct ramps and eliminate enemies. Proceed north along the beach, knock down the latticed gate, and continue with yellow and blue Pikmin through the pass with fiery volcanoes. Build a bridge to the island holding the Libra and use blue Pikmin to break open the geyser. Throw yellow Pikmin to reach the Libra and guide them back while avoiding volcanoes.
For the Analog Computer, maneuver past more volcanoes to reach the pool. Have blue Pikmin retrieve the computer and call them off. Use red Pikmin to transport both the Analog Computer and Libra back to the ship.
The Distant Spring:
The Massage Machine in The Distant Spring is easily obtained by taking a large group of blue Pikmin southeast of the starting area. Prioritize defeating the three frogs by swarming them with Pikmin and using the C Stick to avoid their jumps. Build a bridge using the available logs. Beware of the black bulborb, which is stronger than the red ones. Overwhelming it with blue Pikmin is recommended.
To retrieve the Repair-type Bolt, lead blue Pikmin up the ramp. It is the southernmost of the two eastern parts. Throw yellow Pikmin onto the higher ledge to prevent drowning, then walk along the lower ledge towards the bolt. Maneuver the Pikmin onto the same platform as Olimar to pick up the bolt.
The Interstellar Radio is directly south of the ship, housed in a floating elephant balloon. Clear out nearby enemies to protect your Pikmin during the return trip. Defeat the elephant balloon by throwing Pikmin at its belly from underneath or behind. When it falls, swarm it with Pikmin using the C Stick.
The Final Trial:
In The Final Trial, spend the first day preparing for battle against Emperor Bulblax. Take around 60 blue Pikmin and build a bridge with them to the north. Then, gather three or more yellow Pikmin and throw them onto an island with a bomb depot. Retrieve bombs from the depot and reverse the process to bring the Pikmin back. Cross the bridge with your yellow Pikmin and use their bombs to blow up a gate on the island in the middle of the lake. Assign nearby Pikmin to build another bridge.
For the next operation, use about 20 red Pikmin. Throw them onto a rusty bridge with lips on both sides. Walk down into the water to grab their attention and lead them north across the bridge. Walk under the newly built bridge and continue north. Maneuver the red Pikmin with the C Stick to push a cardboard box out of the way

To escape within a 30-day timeframe, Olimar must enlist the help of indigenous creatures known as “Pikmin” to locate the missing parts of his spaceship. Players assume the role of Olimar, directing different types of Pikmin to explore diverse levels, surmount obstacles, and confront hostile creatures in their quest to recover the ship components.
Pikmin garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, leading to the development of subsequent sequels. The first sequel, Pikmin 2, was released in 2004. A Wii port titled New Play Control! Pikmin Gameplay
The game’s main objective is to retrieve ship parts using the three different types of Pikmin available. Captain Olimar encounters plant-animal hybrids known as Pikmin, which can be commanded to help him recover the ship parts. Each of the three Pikmin colors has unique abilities necessary to overcome obstacles and progress in the game. Red Pikmin are resistant to fire and excel in combat. Yellow Pikmin can be thrown higher, carry explosives called “bomb rocks,” and perform various tasks like breaking down walls. Blue Pikmin are capable of surviving in water and can transport Pikmin of other colors across it.
Various objects, including ship parts, enemy carcasses, and pellets, can be carried by the Pikmin. These items are brought back to the base camp established in the current zone, where Olimar’s ship and the Pikmin’s home bases called Onions are located. The Onions convert carcasses and pellets into Pikmin seeds. A maximum of one hundred Pikmin can be active on the ground at a given time.
The game is divided into thirty days, with each day lasting approximately thirteen minutes (excluding the first day). The player can prematurely end a day or the game if Olimar’s health is depleted or by the player’s request. If all Pikmin in a zone go extinct, the day also ends prematurely. At the end of each day, Olimar must bring as many Pikmin as possible back to the base camp to protect them from nocturnal predators. The ship log is updated daily, reflecting Olimar’s progress, providing hints, or discussing his efforts to escape.
As ship parts are recovered, the ship gains functionality, allowing Olimar to explore new zones on the planet. The game features three different endings based on the number of ship parts collected. Collecting all thirty parts grants the best ending while collecting at least the mandatory twenty-five parts within the 30-day time limit results in the normal ending. Failing to meet these requirements leads to Olimar’s demise.
